What’s up Doc? Carrots! A better snack than M&M's, that’s success!
Students from Middle and High School who are serious about learning the business, technical and artistic components
of social documentary, will be selected to produce marketing pieces for various green initiatives such as, "Green
North Miami". High school students can also fulfill required community service hours engaging in garden development
and maintenance while exploring "green" career opportunities. Industry professionals mentor youth and conduct workshops
and lectures for the community, groups, schools and families on a variety of environmental topics.
At the Dragon Garden in N. Miami's Enchanted Forest Park, children measure their crops growth since the last visit.
Universities such as Florida International, Johnson & Wales, Barry, and Miami International University of
Art & Design, will offer their expertise as they utilize the garden, aligning curriculums that interface
with our youth and community services. University input and presence will build a tangible bridge towards higher
education for local youth and impact gang activity.
Supporting Sunshine State Science Standards with our garden activities.
Young artists will be mentored by recognized environmental artists to create art pieces made of recycled material
for public exhibition on and around the garden sites. Guest artists, workshops and presentations will contribute
to a "green scene" for the community. Green art pieces will be made available for sale at the green market with
proceeds returning directly to the artist and garden.
'We didn’t know carrots came in so many different shapes and sizes.'
There will also be a focus on family co-ops, green markets and art markets. Families and residents will be
instructed in edible gardening, composting, rain barrels and other sustainable topics, creating their own produce
while offering a percentage back to the market and or organizations, or families identified as “in need”.
